North Carolina, USA
P2H’s global headquarters is in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. Here we are working to build cohesion within the community across all political, ethnic, and racial lines. Throughout the entire state — which is prone to natural disasters including fires, floods, and hurricanes — we manage disaster response initiatives in order to help North Carolinians build back better. Our founders have worked in global disaster response for 25+ years. We work to incorporate our lessons learned from different corners of the world into ways that best help North Carolinians.
The Back 40 Project
Stanly County sits at the edge of rapid development from the nearby city of Charlotte. We’re already seeing pressure on farmland and rural life. We support smart, balanced growth that welcomes new families while preserving what makes rural life meaningful. Our focus is thoughtful housing, open space, and local resilience.
Main Street Initiative
We’re working to revitalize small towns across our state starting with Albemarle, NC. We acquire dilapidated properties and restore them to their original style in ways that create opportunities for small businesses and community spaces. We also support local artists in restoring ghost signs, large format murals, and modern art in conspicuous places across our town and state. We want to host art exchange programs where we bring international artists and their work to our small town and share our local artists’ work globally.
&: Restoring the Lost Art of Civil Discourse
The & initiative seeks to find commonality (‘and’) in an ‘either-or’ world. The effects of media (social and traditional) are driving polarity (political, educational, racial, ethnic) in our community at an increasing speed. The driving spirit behind & believes that there’s more that unites and binds us than repels us. We have more in common than what we’re led to believe. & creates community spaces and events that bring together different types of people in disarming ways (arts, sports, education) and structures those engagements around the principles of civil discourse.
